The ruling New Patriotic Party has said the general secretary of the opposition national democratic congress is only making noise to boost his chances for re-election as the competition becomes tough for him by setting a vile agenda against selected state institutions using a purported forensic audit.
The party says it is compelled to “correct the deliberate falsehoods put out by the NDC General Secretary Mr. Asiedu Nketiah yesterday about the forensic audit of some institutions”.
The opposition National Democratic Congress accused the Akufo-Addo administration of misusing taxpayers’ monies to conduct witch-hunt investigations.
At a press conference in Accra yesterday, the party’s General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia, explained, government has contracted audit firms to do work which only the Auditor-General is mandated to carry out.
“We have credible information that these private firms were not legally engaged since they were not officially authorised by the Auditor-General”, he said.
According to him, the government has so far paid six million dollars to these private firms which constitute a waste of scarce resources.
But reacting to the allegations at a press conference in Accra today, the Communications Director of the NPP, Yaw Buaben Asamoah said “we hope Mr. AsieduNketiah is not allergic to facts. In any case, who is he trying to shield from the flames of accountability? Is it the entire Mahama Administration or characters thick in the purported plots to create, loot and share?
