The Member of Parliament for the Obuasi East Constituency, Dr Patrick Boakye-Yiadom has likened former President John Dramani Mahama to a “drunken person who has been awaken just one hour into his sleep to answer a question”, following the latter’s comments that his government awarded the depleted Anwiankwanta-Obuasi Road to a contractor for construction.

On day one of his five day campaign tour of the Ashanti region, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate hopeful told delegates at the Obuasi East Constituency that, his government before leaving office in 2016, tasked a construction firm, Cymain Ltd to construct that 31 km stretch.

He expressed shock as to why close to two years in office, the government of Nana Akufo Addo has refused to effect the construction of the road, though the people in that area voted massively for him.

The Obuasi-Anwiankwanta road, has dominated demands on the government by the residents, who have at separate times demonstrated and threatened to vote against their members of parliament for their failure in championing for the construction of that strategic national facility.

Speaking in an interview with Angel News on the development, the Obuasi East MP said there are no documents to prove the claims made by the former president, John Dramani Mahama and challenged him to produce same if he really believes his pronouncements were true.

“It is unacceptable for somebody who was once a president to tell such lies; unless he took the contract documents with him to opposition, he cannot prove his claims that the said road has been awarded to any contractor for construction”., he fumed.

He said the road has not been fixed partly due to the huge debts the Mahama administration incurred before leaving office, but however assured that funding for the project would be captured in the 2019 budget which is due to be presented to Parliament by Finance Minsiter, Ken ofori Atta on Thursday.
