Trouble is brewing between two families who are claimants to the Sefwi Bekwai Stool in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western region which has become vacant since the demise of the former Paramount Chief of the Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Area, Odeneho Gyapong Ababio four years ago.
Kingmakers are divided over who is the legitimate successor to the throne, causing the youth in the town to pitch camps and threatening mayhem against each other if anybody attempts to enstool either of the two candidates without recourse to due process.
The coronation of one Isaac Danso Asare, a 38-year old lecturer of the Valley View University is expected to be conducted today with the backing of the camp of the Kontihene and caretaker of the Bekwai Traditional Council, Nana Kwadwo Twum II, against the consent of the Abakomahemaa and Queenmother of Sukusuku, Nana Ahenemmra II who is clothed with the prerogative to name a successor to the throne.
The planned coronation of Mr Isaac Danso Asare has been widely published, but a section of the youth in the area who stormed angel fm Friday evening to voice out their frustrations threatened to meet any attempt to enstool an illegitimate candidate with a bloodbath, since the rightful successor is been shortchanged by the leaders.
In an interview with Nana Ahenemmra II, the Abakomahemaa of the Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Area, she said the only things that is restraining the youth of the area from embarking on a bloody demonstration against the Kontihene and the “illegitimate family” is the intervention of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alfred Amoah.
She retorted that apart from her, nobody had the right to choose a successor to the throne and that she would resist any attempt by the Kontihene to impose an illegitimate candidate on the people.
The matter is before the Municipal Security Council which is trying to find a peaceful resolution between the feuding parties.
